Sustainable Orphan Communities is the brain-child of a wondrous adoptive parent, corporate trainer, and amazing Rotarian.  SAC is involved in all 6 of the Rotary International Areas of Focus, and now has a location in Mexico.

Congratulations on the Club’s new baby!

A remarkable new project is being birthed by the Mountain Foothills Rotary Club (with increasing & substantial support from Clubs in Mexico). Sustainable Family Communities is promoting a comprehensive and quite unique framework that challenges the here-to-for unsolvable problems of poverty and the catastrophic results of poverty, including orphans.  17 Million Orphans presently are in orphanages and living on the streets and are living a bleak existence.  These orphans have no concept of what there life might be like if they were living as a part of a family and as a part of a community.

Specific accomplishments from the latest visit to Mexico  (23 May to 18 June).

·         Received a donation of land that will serve as the launch pad for our first prototype Sustainable Family Community.

·         “signed-up” eleven new Board Members for our Mexico Non-Profit.  They  include: (DG’s, Club Presidents, Attorneys, Accountants, a Foundation Director  and more),

This ambitious effort has made remarkable progress, especially in the last several months.  We have forged relationships with Mexican Rotary clubs and made substantial in-roads in working with both governmental agencies and private foundations.  Now we must push forward to secure Mexican Funding in order to begin construction of the businesses for the prototype community.

With great support received from individual members and the Club Foundation, the Sustainable Family Communities project continues to build strong enthusiasm, commitment and financial support here and in Mexico.  Hundreds and actually, thousands of individuals have been inspired by the vision - that the SFC community design/framework may indeed represent a viable antidote to the global plague of poverty and the tragedy of the orphan problem – world-wide.  Imagine the impact when Rotary Clubs around the world are implementing these communities!

The land that has been donated is located within the state of Mexico and is approximately one hour outside of Mexico City.

The milestone of having been gifted with this latest donation of land opens many doors for SFC.  This can be better appreciated when you consider what Bob endured during this unfolding opportunity:

·          picking up fleas from one of the “sustainable communities” he visited.

·          rolled out of the bed at 12:20 a.m. by an earthquake.

·          canceled appointments with  important government officials.

·         a 49 hour bus ride back from Mexico back to Denver.

 Next Steps:

1.) Legal transfer of the donated land to our non-profit in Mexico.

2.) Return to Mexico with three of our technical design experts in Aquaculture, Greenhouse, Energy and Construction.  This team will identify an optimal configuration of considered businesses with respect to the physical characteristics of the donated land and

3.) Continue to coalesce the strategy for obtaining major funding commitment from within Mexico - from indiviual donors, sponsors, philanthropic foundations, Rotary Clubs and investors.

To accomplish the steps listed above, we continue to need everyone’s help, and yes travel funds, (and help of your church/club/school) to get this done.

With Love and Gratitude for your support,

Bob Miller
