Please mark your calendars for the changing of the guard party at Hiwan Golf Club on the late afternoon/evening of 6/26th. The time, cost and food choices are all TBD. We’ll share these details as soon as possible. It will be a fun evening…plan on attending.  We will be dark on the night of Wednesday the 23rd

Do not forget the highway cleanup project on June 12th.

Today’s wildfire event at the Foothills Fire & Rescue pancake breakfast was very well attended. As you may remember, the idea that Evergreen sits in a wildfire danger zone came to Chuck Ridings. Chuck decided that merely wringing our hands was insufficient. He purchased a used fire truck and had it refurbished and decorated so as to draw attention to the subject of wildfire readiness.  He assembled a first-rate team headed by Cindy Latham to do the publicity and to operationally prepare the truck for a series of road shows to teach the details of defending your space and hardening your home. It also provides tips on personal safety and preservation in the event of evacuation. The truck is sensational having been outfitted and highlighted by the artistic efforts of Lori Romberg. I mention these names hoping some of us will have an opportunity to thank them for their good works. Both Rotary clubs are sponsors of this project and those of us who were there today had a strong sense of pride.  Donna Kautzman was the fire truck driver….she handled it like a pro.

At last week’s board meeting, the 2021-22 budget was approved subject to the membership voting to approve a $10 per quarter dues increase. Bob Zavodsky did a yeoman’s job with the budget. The increase is the product of overall rising costs of all that we do. We have avoided a dues increase for many years, but this small increase will also fund some new technology to improve hybrid meetings. We also repriced the annual corporate rate at $550, up $50.
A sad note. Bud Wilkinson’s wife has died. I know Bud would appreciate your words of comfort.
