Board of Directors Meeting Prior to Regular Meeting at 5:00

Speaker: Melissa Leasia
President, Evergreen Audubon Club

Melissa Leasia, a life-long birder and nature lover, has been a volunteer at Evergreen Nature Center since 2014; a board member of Evergreen Audubon since 2016; and president of Evergreen Audubon and Nature Center since January 2024. She grew up among serious birders and naturalists - her step-father was Curator of Birds and Chairman of Zoology at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago and her mother was a dedicated volunteer there. Melissa worked for several years for Openlands Project, the Chicago metropolitan area's equivalent of MALT. She also worked with Evanston (Illinois) Environmental Association and the organization formerly known as the Environmental Fund of Illinois. After moving to Colorado in 2011, Melissa completed Denver Audubon's year-long Naturalist Training and became a volunteer for the bird banding and school programs at Chatfield State Park. Melissa graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, with degrees totally unrelated to nature or the environment. She and her husband Todd live near Alderfer 3 Sisters Open Space Park in Evergreen.
