I want to write to you today about the essence of what Rotary and being a Rotarian is all about. It’s about working hard for a worthy cause…. like our golf tournament which was July 19th.

This is our first tournament without the help from golf tourney wizards Rich Leibundgut and Wally Griffin. It is also the first without our long-time partner Advantage Golf. OK we missed them all and there were a couple of small hick-ups, but here is the takeaway…. three things:
  1. We raised a pile of money for our charities
  2. The participants loved every minute
  3. Participation among Rotarians was fantastic
Those kinds of outcomes do not just happen, they happen because Rotarians make them happen. Here’s how it all occurred.

Bob Zavodsky stepped up and agreed to be our chair despite not knowing the details. He led us relentlessly and skillfully focusing on the goals, especially that of making the event financially successful

Bill Downs brought in record sponsorships and a full house of golfers

Maren sold 50/50 raffle tickets to the tune of over $4,000

P.J. planned and executed an outstanding staffing plan for the tournament

EPRD turned out a large number of volunteers to help us

Dave Talbot took everyone’s picture, and made them all laugh

T.J.’s booming voice and & his ability to adlib served well as MC when the sound system failed

Even Hiwan kicked in a couple of free rounds of golf certificates for a couple of 4somes for whom we were overbooked

Rose kept all the money and credit card payments straight

Nan directed traffic during the always hectic time when all 130 golfers arrive at the same time to settle up their bills

Then there were visits from founding members Bob Jones and John Jarvis who we have not seen for a while.  It was also great to see Chuck Ridings get to hit his first golf shot in over two years, and it was impressive.

All in all, it was a fine day… A fine Rotary day.
I hope to see everyone tomorrow at Mount Vernon
