It’s with a heavy heart that I write to you today. Our little Pugle (part Pug part Beagle) died yesterday morning. Ruby came to us as a rescue in 2010. She had been featured in the Courier as Evergreen’s cutest doggie. She was a good girl and, of course, she won our hearts. While we were living in Erie, she was diagnosed with diabetes. As a result, she lost most of her sight, but Nancy’s unbelievable dedication to her well being gave her a good quality of life. Nancy was totally dedicated to understanding her diabetes and to the required regiment and timing her feeding and the insulin shots she needed every day. Nancy built a back yard for her at our new home and no dog ever was more pampered. That’s ok, she deserved it. Please indulge my writing on this very personal subject. I think writing about Ruby and Nancy’s dedication to her will help me remove the sadness I’m feeling. We are, after all, a family of Rotary.

I just spoke to our friend Med Durel.  He continues to improve from his medical setback. He hopes to come to a meeting soon. I know he would love hearing from some of us.

Our program is a 9/11 topic of which you may be unfamiliar. I hope you will come and hear this positive and uplifting story.

I can report that for the first time in many years, our district has an increase in membership. Our clubs are employing many different techniques but reaching out to good people we know and extending the hand of Rotary is the essence of growth. Who do you know that would embrace our value of service above self? Tell them about our great club.
